Azeem Ahmed Tariq (died 1 May 1993) was a Pakistani politician who was the Chairman of the MQM (Muhajir Qaumi Movement). The party was formed to fight for the rights of the Mohajir people in Sindh, who were immigrants from India during the Indo-Pakistan split. Tariq was known as an honest politician. He was admired for his strategic and peaceful approach to problem-solving, and his loathing of violence. Regarded as an icon of peace, honesty and kindness in Pakistani politics, he was also well known for his soft-spoken tone and striking personality. He was a key member of the MQM and also known as the brain of the MQM. == Assassination == Tariq was murdered in Karachi home on May 1, 1993. Between three and three thirty AM intruders came into the house, picked his bedroom lock and fired multiple rounds as he slept on the floor of his drawing room. He is one of several MQM leaders and workers who have been killed over the years by various militant groups.
